The Shady Side of MrBeast
In 2018, The Atlantic took a look at MrBeast’s history of using homophobic slurs on Twitter and references to homosexuality as jokes in some of his earlier videos. MrBeast’s response to The Atlantic, “I don’t think anyone cares about this stuff,” worsened matters, although he has toned down his language in the wake of the article.
Burger fiasco
MrBeast’s business idea of selling his branded burgers online, that were cooked at “ghost kitchens,” faced many problems. The ordering app repeatedly crashed on launch, and with no way to oversee the cooking process, it wasn’t long before complaints about the food quality started pouring in.
Squid Game
To capitalize on the latest cultural trend, MrBeast recreated scenes from “Squid Game” for a video and offered huge cash prizes to the winners of his version of the game. While he poured millions of dollars into recreating the events from the TV show, many felt he didn’t understand the show’s message as he flaunted his wealth.
Clubhouse meeting
During an event on the audio app Clubhouse in early 2021, MrBeast had the job of giving different audience members a chance to speak. However, Clubhouse host Farokh Sarmad says that when he wanted an opportunity to talk, MrBeast removed him from the meeting, saying, “I can’t spell your name, so I’m going to yote you out.”
Toxic workplace
MrBeast’s team of people helps him to create, film, and edit all of his videos, but some of his former employees have negative things to say about the YouTuber. The New York Times spoke to nearly a dozen ex-employees who voiced their complaints, such as the lack of credit given, unrealistic expectations, and the frequent verbal abuse from MrBeast.
